Do You Have a Security Plan?
The US DOT requirement for shippers and transporters to have security plans would extend to farmers if they pick up and haul products from a retail outlet which meet plan requirements (such as being placarded). The DOT suggest that retailers inform customers of precautions for en route security, for example: 1) Minimize travel time by going directly from retail outlet to destination; 2) Protect the shipment en route by monitoring the shipment during stops and securing the shipment inside or to the vehicle; and 3) Report any suspicious activities or persons to local law enforcement or the FBI.
